Copeland Gin

A rookie in the gin world, Copeland only opened its distillery doors a mere year ago in November 2016, and what a year it has been. Founder Gareth Irvine got his eureka moment in summer 2015 all stemming from a university project and the rest has snowballed from then. Crowdfunding was successfully used by Gareth, raising over £30,000 from over 390 founders, this was a pivotal moment for the team, as it enabled them to bring Copeland Gin to the market. Overwhelmed by the local support, Copeland Gin is truly thankful, outlining the project would not have taken off without the founders getting behind them.

A small batch gin, handcrafted in Saintfield, Country Down it is “an artisan product with flavour combinations that surprise and excite”. This gin is truly unique as it is a ‘handcrafted infusion’, combining Copeland’s own premium gin with locally sourced County Down fruit. Creating not only a delectable drink sensation but also supporting the local farming and producer’s community. It differentiates from other ‘flavoured gins’ on the market as Copeland is not simply a gin liqueur but it is a fully fledged 37.8% infused gin.

This gin is literally Christmas in a bottle, the first taste is warming with a hint of spice

Copeland’s two core gins currently on the market are Rhuberry (Rhubarb & Blackberry) and Raspberry & Mint, but today I focus all my loving attention on their limited edition Christmas spectacular gin, I introduce Spiced Apple & Blackcurrant, just released on Friday 10th November 2017 in limited stock and what a festive treat it is. This gin is literally Christmas in a bottle, the first taste is warming with a hint of spice; you are greeted with a subtle sensation of what I imagine to be cinnamon infused apples (maybe with a few other warming spices threw in for good measure) this morphs into distinct blackcurrant undertones bringing a sweet earthy flavour leaving a smooth refreshing finish. The wonderful rose colour of this delightful liquid further adds to its alluring character. It’s an all-round perfect drink that everyone simply needs to sample.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer? Is drinking Copeland limited edition gin grinning from ear to ear… Copeland Spiced Apple and Blackcurrant truly captures the essence of Christmas, making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Definitely a must try and not just for Christmas, it’s a great tipple for any time of the year!
